Safe Arrival in Cape Town

Hey everyone... I've arrived safely in Cape Town and everything is going great! My host counselor is a wonderful man and his family is very kind and welcoming. Earlier today, he picked me up from the flat where I'm staying and took me to get a cell phone sim card (local number), to the bank to get a local account, to the university to pre-register (required for international students), and to a quaint restaurant on table mountain for lunch. i'm at his house now waiting for supper. I just wanted to quickly update everyone.

new favorites:
appletiser (sparkling apple juice drink... delicious)
south african wine (offered freely on the plane... also delicious)
south african accents (beautiful)
south african hospitality (very kind, warm, and wonderful!)

dislikes:
impatient americans also in line at the international student office
verrrry windy in cape town today (chicago ain't go nothin on this - haha)

that's all for now... much more to come later~!

  1. Hi Kristen

This is Eric. Glad to hear you have arrived in South Africa safely. Melissa also arrived in Madrid yesterday so I get to follow two wonderful international adventurers. Great for you. My former boss, David Hoffman, lived in Cape Town for several years on a mission to spread the Bahai Faith. He loved it there. I know that you will spread your "southern charm" and win the hearts and souls of all you touch. We are very proud of you and we will be thinking about you always. Enjoy the adventure and the different colored winds!

  2. Hey girl!!
I'm using Elliott's google account to comment seems to be working so far.
Sounds like you are being very productive so far and that your host counselor is great! All fabulous news. When I was in Mexico one of our favorite drinks was an apple soda called manzanita-it was made by Coca-cola. I wonder if thats similar to appletiser???
Let's plan a skype date soon
    Love you miss you!
